Traditional Kyrgyz Bride Farewell Ceremony

Duration: about 1.5 hours. What to expect:

  • 1.Welcome – Guests are greeted with tea, kumis, and traditional snacks.
  • 2.Bride’s preparation (– The bride is dressed in a traditional gown and headdress (shökülö). Soft folk songs are sung.
  • 3.Parents’ blessing (– Parents give emotional farewell words and blessings (bata). The mother may sing a short farewell song.
  • 4.Arrival of groom’s family– They bring gifts, take the bride’s dowry (sep), and thank her parents.
  • 5.Farewell moment – The bride says goodbye, receives final blessings, and symbolically departs. Guests scatter grain or petals for luck.
  • 6.Closing– Guests return for tea. The guide explains that Kyz Uzatuu means blessing the daughter for her new life, not just saying goodbye.
