May be this path was part of the ancient Silk Road? From Tash Rabat you may hike to the Panda Pass, crossing the height of the At Bashy mountain range and then follow the steep path down to the Chatyr Kol lake. It's a one day hike if you get a pick up by car close to the lake.

Where to hike

You will spend the night in one of the jurt camps around Tash Rabat. After breakfast the hike starts at the Tash Rabat building at 2,985 m height.

The paths follows the creek flowing in the wide valley bottom. For the first ten kilometers (3:30h) the way is flat and the hike is not too tough. Sometimes the path is a little bit elevated on the side of the valley, other times you will share your step with the water.

The path finally inclines and leads up on a scree slope where the ways to Tash Rabat Pass (left) and to Panda Pass (right) divide. Finally you will be at the Panda pass at 4.024 m altitude.

From the pass you will go down the other side of the mountain. For this section a border zone permit is absolutely necessary. The destination is now Lake Chatyr Kol. Now have to search for the gravel road were our driver will pick us up.
